While "Forrest Gump" is set in the fictional town of Greenbow, Alabama, many scenes were actually filmed in the South Carolina Lowcountry, including Walterboro, where the Greenbow County Central School (Forrest's elementary school) was filmed at the former Hampton Street Elementary School, now the Colleton Civic Center. The Gump home and Jenny's house were built on Bluff Plantation property located in Colleton County.
