About the event
This is a 45-minute one-man show in which Donald Sweeper tells stories shared to him by his ancestors and the elderly people from the community in which he grew up. This performance also includes Gullah folklore and traditions, as well as rites of passage performed by many of the African American Churches from Reconstruction up to the early 1970s. Donald Sweeper will also translate Gullah into English for the audience. As a demonstration, he reads scriptures from the New Testament Gullah Bible.
The program, sponsored by South Carolina Humanities, will begin at 11:00 am, May 6th at the Colleton Museum & Farmers Market
